HAVEN FOR SMALL CRAFT.
HARBOUR BOARD IMTTES
SUGGESTIONS.
"The Harbour Board is fully aware of the desirableness of a boat harbour beino- constructed." Thie was the statement made by Mr J. H. Ouneon, chairman of the Board, to a "Star- reporter to-day. in reply to certain allegations that have been made against the Bonrd of not doing what it could to assist the motor launch and yacht owners of Auckland. "The proposal has been before the Board on several -occasions," continued Mr Cunson. "The Board thoroughly appreciates the position and recognises the urgent necessity for such provision. Several propositions have been brought forward from time to time, but for one reason and another have not been gone on with. Tt is quite true as intimated that the Admiralty -has under consideration a proposal to instal a harbour for submarines on the northern shore, which will be large enough to accommodate the major portion of the small craft, but at the present time it is impossible to say what will be done in connection with that proposal. If the boating and other people interested will put forward a scheme the Harbour Board will be only too pleased to give it consideration. __s in the case in other qua-Tters. it is the financial aspect that is the trouble. The Board has enormouß works in hand, and its commitments are very heavy. If a scheme is prepared by those interested and proves acceptable to the Board, we would be ple-iscd to carry it into effect when our financepermitted its to do so."
