FINANCE.
(To the Editor.)
Sir.—Money is tighter, and no wonder. Here is the explanation of the trouble: — Total imports for 1912, £20,975,076; exports totalled £21.770.243. Now, a* w< , have to find £4,750.000 per annum to paj- the interest on public, municipal, and private indebtedness to the external creditor, it is cl«ar that for 1912 there was a deficit 0f£3,954,833. And yet certain writers will endeavour to persuade us that we can better afford to pay towards the upkeep of the King's navy than can the richest country the ■world has known.—l am, etc., COSMOS.
