OCEAN YACHT RACE.
AUCKLAND TO WHANGAREI.
An event which is being much l<-o..e_( forward to by yachtsmen who will, be unable to get away from Auckland for lengthy cruises is an ocean race to Whangarei, which is to start from the Waitemata on New Year's Eve. Although the pronosal was mooted some time ago, no definite arrangement was maae, and it was feared at one time that the event would not take place. Now, however, definite arranFenmnti. have been made for the race, and quite a large number of yachtsmen contemplate taking their boats to Whangarai if the weather conditions are in any way favourable. The Whangarei Regatta Committee have received the cor> dial co-operation of the officials of. thei Ro(ral New Zealand Yacht Squadron iti making arrangements, and Messrs. J. W. Frater, of the R.N.Z.Y.S. and Sir, W. A. Wilkinson have consented to take charge of the race in Auckland. These gentlemen are now prepared to receir* entries and the entrance fee (2/6). Tne race i 3 to be started at 7 pjn. on New Year's Eve from between the commodore's yacht Thelma and a mark boat moored in Judge's Bay. The yachts are to finish between the end of Onerahl wharf and a mark boat moored in tha stream. . ..;
