Mr Hajnilton Hodges arrived from Wellington by the Main Trunk express this morning. Tihe Rev. and Mrs. Simpson and family left by the Victoria this afternoon for Dunedin, <ton their way to Core, where Mr. Simpson has accepted a call. Captain Callaghan, for many years in charge of the Government steamer at Fiji, hae now retired on pension, and has taken up his residence in Auckland. Mr. .1. Menzies, of the Premier Joinery Company, Ltd., Freezing Works Reclamation, was presented by the office etaff and employees to-day with a marble clock, suitably inscribed, on the eve of his marriage. Mr. 0. F. Ollivier, the New Zealand tennis champion, left for the _.outh last evening. The Hon. F. M. B. I'lsher also left last night for Hastings in connection with the Australasian tonnie championship meeting to be held there. Father Cognet, parish priest at Otaki. died at Wellington this morning, aged 55. lie came to the Dominion 25 years ago from France, and had been stationed at Otaki and Taranaki.
