It has been decided, as a special measure, to throw open nine commissions as htutenarrts in the permanent forces of the Dominion to warrant officers and staff sergeants-major of the New Zealand Artillery and permanent staff. Seven of these commissions will be in the New Zealand Staff Corps, and two in the New Zealand Artillery. \fter these appointments have been made the authorites will adhere to the rule that corps of officers shall be recruited by graduates of the Military College. The nine- new appointments above referred to will be made by competitive examination, and those desirous of competing should send names immediately to the district headquarters. The examination will be held at Wellington about the middle of January. The decision above referred to will supersede the decision announced some time ago that no further appamtments a* officers would be made except through the Military College- The Department has been compelled. owing to the scare- ( itv of officers, tcr depart from the rule that was -formerly laid down.
