Record Christmas Greetings.
The A. and A. liner Makura landed a record ma,l of .approxrmately 1,000 bags at Auckland this week. A great proportion of the letters conveyed Xmas greetings from Europe and America to friends in the Dominion. Immediately the steamer had dropped anchor in the stream a sufficient number of bags was brought ashore by lighter to keep t-he post °flioe staff busy until the bulk of the mail Was transferred on the Maknra berthing a t Quern .Street wharf. Removing bags from Wd of lighter. (2) A big load of 200 sacks en route to the P.O. (3) The ship's officer checking delivery. (4) Slinging the mails from the Makura. (5) Passing the bags to the sorting room at the back of the post office. (6) A portion of the Wellington mail on the deck of the Makura.
