ONEHUNGA HIGH SCHOOL.
■ m The mandate of the Education Board that the secondary department of the above school was to be closed down at the end of the present year having gone forth, the scholars decided to mark the occasion by staging the Trial scene from "The Merchant of V'eiiic.!" in the Foresters' | Hall. The first part of the programme consisted of a miscellaneous concert, the items of which were contribnted by t'je , Misses Uountree, Oliver, Short. Rogets, and Ernest. Mrs. Trayes, and Messrs. Taylor, Sutherland. Watts and Phillips. I The Trial scene was admirably staged, the dresses being those of tlie period. Too much praise cannot be giveu to Miss Mabel Oliver for her admirable portrayal -of Portia. Mr. John Burton, as Sliylock, came in for much well-deserved applause, whilst Miss Irene Rogers as Nerissa, Mr. j Charles Davies as* nassaulo, Mr. George Douglas as (.'ratiano. Mr. Hugh Rintoul ns Antonio, Mr. L_i_ McLiutock as the ! Dnke, and Mr. Carl Bartlett as Salanlo all 1 did well. The teachers and scholars, In bidding farewell to the teacher of the secondary department. Miss Florence Patterson, M.A., presented her with a silver mirror, shoe horn, chatelaine purse, and scent bottle.
