A POPULAR AQUATIC OUTING. Arrangements are well forward for the Whangarei Harbour Regatta Club's third annual _ regatta, which will he heklat Onerahi on New Year's day, and which this year bids fair to be a much more popular event for Aucklanders than it has been previously. The s.s. Manaia will run a special excursion trip from Auckland, leaving on New Year's Eve, at 10 pan., and returning from Whangarei immediately after the regatta. All classes of aquatic sports have ibeen well catered for, there being three yacht races and three launch races, in adeiition to a full programme of nine rowing events. Swimming races—the chief of which is the Whangarei amateur championship race for a gold medal—diving" competitions, rtinghy races, water polo. and the greasy boom events all play their part in the composition of a first-ciass all-round aquatic programme. The 15th North Auckland Band will be in attendance, and every effort has been made hy the executive to cater for the pleasure of the large number of visitors who are expected. Particulars of the ocean races to Whangarei, for yachts and launches, may be obtained from the secretaries of the Yacht Squadron and the Power Boat Association respectively, and all entries for othear events close with the secretary (Mr. Wm. Mcintosh Murray), at Whangaxei on Saturday, 21st inst. So thorough has been the work of the executive that only fine weather is now res-; quired to make the regatta one of —_ most enjoyahle outings of the year.
