ENTEODUCED INTO ASSEMBLY. DEATH KNELL OF BOOKMAKER. NOT TO BE ALLOWED ON THE COTTRSES. { Received 9.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. In the Assembly Mr. I.evien introduced a Totaiisator Bill which provides for granting of licenses for totalizators to the recognised racing dabs for a period of twelve months at a fee of a pound cvnn day. A license will be issued to Hubs to retain 10 per cent of the moneys paid into the machine. Within a fortnight they must, pay half the commission deducted to the Colonial Treasurer. The remaining half is to be expended in prizes an-i upkeep. Proprietary clubs using their own course need spend only a quarter of the money in prizes and upkeep. All moneys after the commission has been deducted will be paid as dividends.
A clause provides that racing clubs shall use all means to prevent bookmakers from plying their calling on their courses. The selling to or purchasing for a minor of a tote ticket shall b≤ punishable by a nne or imprisonment. The bill also prohibits anyone from receiving from s.no:Zier money to invest, also anyone from acting as tote agents on commission.
