NEW FIRE STATION.
OPENING AT GREENLANE. The official opening of the new Green lane Fire Brigade Station was performed last evening by the chairman of the One tree Hill Road Board (Mr. E- A. Craig) before a large gathering of citizens. The brigade, which consists of ten volunteer! under Captain Wm. Carr, an Aucklani city and Christchurch veteran, gave i demonstration at the corner of the Greai South Road and Greenlane, fully provinj the utility of even such a small fire pln.nl which comprises a hand reel and 600 feel of hose with three leads. With a singl* nozzle the water was thrown to a heiehi of 50ft, quite sufficient for any possible requirements of the present. An adjournment was then made to th< Harp of Erin Hall, where a most enjoy able musical programme was goni through. During the proceedings Mr Craig briefly outlined the steps leadinj up to the acquisition of the fire plant Speeches were also made by Messrs. Pat terson, Bond (Remuera 'Road Board; and Potter (Greenlane Ratepayers' As sociation). Musical items were con tributed by Mrs. Carr, Misses Elliott Payne, Messrs Foote, Parkin, Forte, Lee White, Harvey and Captain Carr. Cap tains Hill (Onehunga Fire Brigade) Watts (Newmarket), Cowa n (Parnell) Williams (Mt. Eden), and Haneocl (Newmarket Railway) were guests o honour.
