THE EXCHANGE. Investment stocks had better attention on the Exchange to-day. Buyers cam? in fqr Turkish Ba£b, shares this morning at 50/, biit na seller quotpd. In this connection it may be mentioned that a circular has hee'n fqrwarded to shareholders from the office in Lome Street stating that "those competent to judge value them at over £5. The original cogt to members in the year 1880 was £2. Add to that 30 years' interest, say nt 4 per cent £:{, makes their value now £5. This value is fully borne out by the profits made by tj»« company, and the greatly increased value of their freehold property in Lome Street, estimated value of thjs £6,000, represented by 391 shares." Rank of New Zealand shares are still at £11, but sellers ask an additional 7/6. i-or National Banks £8 1/ was offered today, and for Sooth .British Insurance i 8/6. Union Steam were a shade firmer being wanted at 47/, and buyers of Hill and Plummer advanced to 27/3. Maxwell, Ltd., shares had a rise up to 27/ buyers but no sales resulted. A transaction took place in paid up Northern Steam at Jo/3. I n mining shares, Talismans sold at 40/6. after news was received that the men had gone out,. Waihi-' Paeroa shares changed hands at 30/. Occidentals sold at 1/2. but other shares in raining companies had little change. DOMINION. A week or two ago the manager of the Dominion mine. Karangahake re>orted that a very heavy flow of water had been encountered. * In his report •this -aorninjj b« further states there is Still a good flow of water coming rom the face, which makes the work of picking up the drive very difficult.
