PANAMA CANAL BILL CANADA JOINS THE PROTEST. (Received 2.35 pjn.) OTTAWA, August 26. Cabinet is preparing to register a vigorous protest against the Panama Canal Bill. The Bordon Government will co-operate with the British Government in pointing out that the ITnited States is now able to use the Canadian 'waterways and canals connecting the great lakes without tolls. Britsh Columbia, will be vitally affected by the new legislation, because American ships sailing from New York to San Francisco, passing the. canal toll free, can continue to Vancouver, pet cargo there, and return toll free |o the Atlantic seaboard. The consequent damage to Canadian interests is obvious. The Canadian Cabinet is reported to be planning retaliatory measures. MILLIONAIRE FIREMEN. (Received 2.35 p.m.) CHICAGO, August 26. Three millionaires acted successfully as firemen when the palatial clubhouse of the Chicago Golf Club was partia|ly destroyed.
