GAS METERS.
NO CHECK ON ACCURACY. (By Telegraph.-. Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of Justice was approached this week by representatives of the Trades and Labour Council to secure a stiffening up of the law ensuring tbat proper'weight is given when commodities are sold. Another aspect of the subject is being inquired into by tbe Mayor of Christchurch (Mr. H. Holland) during his visit to Wellington, and that is the inspection of gas meters so as to ensure that consumers obtain full value for their money. The position is not clear to him, and at present nothing is done to safeguard the community. Mr. Holland will consult tbe solicitor to the Municipal Association, and if he finds there is no legal power to municipalities to check gas meters, au endeavour will be made to secure legislation remedying that deficiency.
