TRAM AND CART.

COLLISION AT EDEN TERRACE. J About 8.45 this morning a collision occurred in New North-road, near Ex-mouth-street, between a city-bound tmmcar and a two-wheeled dray laden with scoria. The dray was going up the hill towards Symonds-streot. when the driver, whose name is Claude Marmont, found it necessary to drive on to the tramline in order to pass a Chinaman's cart. At this moment the car. which was driven by Motorman Munro, crashed into the dray from behind, completely overturning it, breaking both shafts, and throwing the driver out. The sound of the impact was heard a long distance away, and the opinion of bystanders was that had the dray been empty, the man would have been thrown very severely. lie was taken to a shop opposite, and attended by Dr. Porter, who found that one knee had, been sprained. The horse had a splinter three, inches long driven, into its rump, and was also scratched. The car was undamaged, but traffic was held up for some time as a result of the accident. The dray was the property of Mr. John Marmont, of Kingsland, a brother of the driver. Accidents have always been rather frequent in New North-road, which is considered by motormen to be one of the most dangerous sections of the tramway system. The grade as a rule fs considerable, and the road is narrow, as well as full of bends.
