A peculiar case came before the Wellington Land Board recently. A section of land, 1464 acres, was acquired by two brothers, under the Bush and Swamps .Act, which provides for a remission of Test for four years. Improvements had been effected, valued at between £700 Md £1000. One brother got tired and deserted, and the position, the CommrsBoner explained, was that if the requested transfer from the deserter to tie remaining brother was granted, it became a transfer under the Act, and the holder was liable to pay the whole of tile rent np to the date of the transfer. In this instance the rent was £ 130. He applicant for the transfer had stated fiat he was absolutely unable to meet this liability, and according to the law the land must be forfeited and thrown open for selection again.
