HIS MAJESTY'S. I The popularity of the charming youn» kut'lifh actress. Miss Marie Bjiiaes, was r<? !spaueibJe tor packed audiences at His Majesty's every n!«ht last week, and on Saturday evening mere was not. a vacant seat, m an/ part of the theatre. His Excellency the Governor, Lord Islington, and a party from Government House were prei seat. The comedy, "Miss Lancashire, Limited," went with a swing, which kept the crowded house in almost one continual ripple of laughter. Hiss Baines is a clever ana charming actress, whose versatility is quite out of the ordinary. Her characterisation of the part of "Our Mary Eilen" was responsible for the success of the production, and the applause with which her efforts were rewarded was well merited. Hiss Baines' songs and musical quips were pleasIns features of thg production, and the clever little songlets regarding some <Sf Sew Zealand's politicians went very well indeed. The popularity of "MA33 Lancashire" Is so great that she will continue to appear lor the nest four evenings. QUEEN'S THEATRE. An unusually ataractics collection of pictures is being presented lor the first time to-day at the Queen's Picture Theatre. The j first item oc the programme Is an American story entitled "The Foreman's Mine." A premature explosion la caused by the foreman's rival, and the latter ie blinded. The villain is discovered, and the foreman's blindness is cured, and an ends happily, the more so because the mine prores rich. "The Reckoning-" is also a Klondyke mining s-tory. it tells of a miner's revenge on the man who killed his brother. The special feature of the programme is a representation of Henrik Ibsen's '"A Dell's House.'* The acting in this piece is exceptionally good, and although a melancholy strain runs through the story it does not, as lias been said, "take the hope out of life." "Under Burning Skies" (A.B.\ and "Economy" (Essanay), are two excellent che latter a splendid comedy. The remaining items axe a Cines comedy, "Lawn Tennis," a laughter-provoking picture, ant "Hume." a scenic well tip to the standard to be seen at this theatre. The programme win continue till Wednesday night. OPERA HOCSE. There was a well-filled twtfhiinjr for the closing performance of the week at the Opera House, and the bill of fare appeared to be heartily appreciated. To-night Till witness the introduction of a new lot of artists including Alec Lander, a brother of She famous Larry Lander. This performer has (rained a considerable reputation as a vo«-a.list and comedian. Other new performers will be the Syl-vestas, court magicians, l"r<>f<»ssor Brahms and ibis canine pet, eta, etc. OTHER SHOWS. The Lyric management has made a selpi-tiou of choice film* with which to renew rhe programme to-night. They will include a clever child study entitled "Tie Sue-beam." " Picturesque Padua," a fine Italian subject, and an interesting film describing French head-dresses in colours, and "Little Miriam" is a drama, centred round a rt-.U incident of tie Trrpolitan war. The next special attraction is to be a spectacular military drama entitled "Drummed Out- , ' The King George Theatre management announce an entire change of programme tonight, the star picture. I The Newton Picture Palace continues to maintain its run of extensive patronage, and the management are promising a Eresa lot of pictures for to-day and to-night. SKATING.
