A letter was received from the town clerk of Grey Lynn Informing the Council of" the desire of his Council to confer with the metropolitan body on the subject of amalgamation, and asking the Council to appoint a committee, with the view of a conference at an. early date. The r equest wai acceded to, the appointment of the committee being left in the Mayor's hands. COMPASSIONATE ALLOWANCE. An application was made by the legal firm Of Stewart and Johnston for a compassionate allowance to the widow and children of WiUrtm Dalsley, In the service of the Council for over twelve, years prior to his death, and whose death, K was submitted, Bad been In part occasioned by an injury sutalned while In the Council's -employ. The request was referred to the •Works Committee for NO-'TRAJffS OX GOOD FRIDAY. The request of the general manager of the Auckland Electric TramwaysC Co m P ay that the entire suspension of the service be permitted on Good Friday, to enable the employees to attend the anriuaT picnic, was granted. .... MORE FOOTPATH WANTED. A number of property owners and ratspayers of Darby and Elliott streets wrote asking that the footpaths of those thoroughfares be widened from six to eight feet, In order to.meet the thcreaslhs traffic. The matter was referred to the Streets Commltee. LUMINOUS INDICATORS. It was decided to recommend the Auckland Fire.Board to repaint the existing Iron lr e plug Indicators with luminous paint. In order that they may comply with the provisions of the Municipal Corporations Act. LETS INSTITUTE. The librarian of the Leys Institute reported donations of literature from Messrs. J. Enlrtcan, T. W. Leys, and 11. Shaw, totalling 34 volumes. She also> reported that the three additional -DOoKcas** and the magazine stand ordered by the president were now to the library, one case having been placed in the Lending Department an(t rwo m the Reference Room': that the rearranging of the Action- department in the Lending Library was completed, all the works by one author being placed together. MISCELLANEOUS. The Electric and Water Committee recommended that the claims of Messrs. K. and S Smyth, amounting to £3l?iß 5/, for SW acres of land, acquired by the Council for the purposes of the Nthotapu waterworks, be settled for £7BO. The Works Committee reported having made an application to the Harbour Board lor a lease of a strip of land six feet wide for the purpose of a footpath from Wfcite-mata-street to the beach. The City Engineer was instructed to ni! the entrance* heyond the alignment in connection with the formation of the Stanleystreet footpath should there be any sorph* materia] when the Council's own work is completed. The Auckland Rugby League were granted one ground In Victoria Park and one In the Domain for the forthcoming season. One ground was granted in Victoria Park for Australian football.
