WAIKATO CENTRAL SHOW.

DISPLAY AH CAMBRIDGE. A RECORD ENTRt. The show opened yesterday, the weather proving better than was expected, but doubtless many were deterred from being present by the continuous rain that has fallen daring the past week, and those exhibiting stork most have an anxious time In preparing them for the show. The entries this year establish a record, which necessitated over 130 extra cattle pens being erected, also a number of temporary loose boxes for horses. Some of the exhibitors were late In bringing in their stock, one of them being Mr. C. Day, of Tamahere, whose stock did not arrive on the. ground until the judging of the Jerseys was completed, consequently his Imported ball did not bjrve a chance to score. As is usual at this show, .the horses were the chief the display of them being very fine. The most notable advance is made In draughts, no less than nineteen stallions of various ages being exhibited. Hacks, hunters, and carriage horses were present In fall numbers, the total forming probably the largest and finest collection of horses ever brought together m the Waikato. Aged draught stallions were probably the best class, as they were the most valuable, Mr. H. Rhodes' Lord Hbpetown gaining first and champion, the well-known sire Marcellus coining second. The show of thoroughbred stallions was small, but tbe quality was good: mares and young stock were In full number, and of high quality. In the fat cattle classes Mr. G. F. Moore, Kai Iwl, Wanganul, practically swept the board of prises, their condition being exceptionally good. On the whole cattle were not In such condition- as the abundance of feed should cause them to he, with the exception of those above mentioned, nor were they quite np to the standard of former years tn this respect; of course, with exceptions. Shorthorns were well represented, hut Mr. Wm. Taylor could not send one of his imported bulls owing to its having met with su accident. Jerseys were well represented in numbers, and were of first-class quality; Ayrshire* were in usual numbers, and Holsteins had largely Increased. There was a falling off in the number of sheep exhibited, but the quality generally was very good, and all the leading exhibitors were represented. Figs showed a distinct advance In both numbers and quality, the exhibits in these classes numbering 50 per cent more than last year. Most of the prises fell, to tie well-known breeder, Mr. E. J. Rogers, though most breeders were represented. There was a fine display In the home Industry sections. the competition being very keen amongst the lady competitors.
