ELECTRICITY IN BULK.

AND LOCAL BODIES AS CUST^MERR

In reference to the request of the Suburban Local Bodies' Association for tei'frre for a buFk electric supply to local bodies, the City Council's electrical engineer reports that he cannot recommend any offer to supply in bulk, as euch a supply to the boroughs, either separately, or in groups, in view of the moderate ■popftlation in the area would be economically absurd, it being clear that such an arrangement would entail greater expenditure than a direct supply from a singla source to the customer. He points out that the electric supply business is not one out of which very large profits aft •to be made, if it is to be maintained on a sound financial footing, and th» fcoroughs, if they expected to make a profit on their side, would always 1 be agitating for a lower price from" the Council than it could afford to supply at. He expresses regret that the suburban local bodies have never properly appreciated the liberal terms already offered them bv the Council.

It wae decided to reply in accordance with the terms of the engineer's report.
