LABOUR TROUBLES.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—As a working man. will you kindly permit m* space jn wftich to "express my opinions relative \o the above, and anent the contentions or the Mayor. Mr Parr seems to think that the officials of the Federation want to rule the city if not the universe. Xo such thing. All they want is fair play and an impartial hearing, which he refused when a certain deputation waited upon him at a recent meeting of the City Council. Moreover, I would point out that the workers are not afraid to ventilate their views in the presence of the masses—not like the Mayor and bis brother cotmcrrrors, behind closed doors, I wonder if the civic fathers and the employers as a whole realise the strenuous conditions under which the toilers have to work? If those •who earn their daily bread by the sweat of their brow were extinct, what would the capitalists do? Would they be capable of taking off their coats "to work! As a matter of principle, the workers are only fighting shoulder to shoulder for their just and lawful rights, and do not desire to threaten or put forth exorbitant demands.—l am, etc., FAIR PLAY.

(To tbe Editor.) Sir, —As the fever or fear of strikes is in the air, I think the best thing for Auckland to do is to get a sanitary law passed, providing that every one working for the City Council in matters affecting tbe health of the people shall be responsible to the corporations alone, and not to any unioa. Sanitation involves health and life. From the humble street cleaner to the nnrse and doctor, who help the sick and weak, they are all fighting to make the city pure and clean. The food supply tOboitM be similarly protected* -under Government control, to whom the workers should have' a right of appeal for the rectification of their grievances.—l am. etc., SANITARY.
