FERRY STEAMER LAUNCHED.

The vehicular ferry steamer Engiehawk, which forms the latest addition to the Devonport Steam Ferry Company's fleet, was successfully launched at 9.30 this morning from the yard of Mr. George Niecol, Customs-street West. The christening ceremony was performed by Miss Dntme, daughter of Mr. D. W. Dutbje, one of the directors of the com■pesfj. The new steamer, which has been under construction ior some months past, is in almost all respects identical with the Goshawk, though some slight improvements in cabin accommodation are contemplated, and she amy, on trial, develop a little higher speed. She is intended principally for the Nartbeota and Birkenhe*3 service, winch is expected to be of much greater importance when the floating stage at Northcote is completed. After launching, the Englehawk was towed round to Qneenstreet wharf, her boiler being lowered into position by the new floating crane. She will probably be ready for_her trial run m three weeks or a fortnight, and will be taken into service immediately. The new passenger steamer Peregrins, whicfT is at present lying at the Hobson-eon-street wharf, will go on her trim! trip some time next week.
