The qnestion of trying to match the amateur runners, G. N. 11111 and A. A. The committee expressed their willingness to help the fund for the Olympic games by a substantial donation, and also to put up a handsome trophy for the event. Both Tostle and Donaldson are progressing satisfactorily in their tralnlDg for their treetlng nt the sports. The pair have been handicapped somewhat by the weather, bnt ! have been fortunate enough to have the I Polire Barracks gymnasium placed at their! disposal by the kindness of Inspector Cnllen, | and have done a lot of Indoor work. The | break in the weather gave them an opportunity to ludnlge in training on the Domain, ! and their work created n lot of interest. Postle. when going slow, would not strike one as the fastest man In the world over SO yards, and it is not until he is extended thnt he Is seen to advantage, lie musters up pace very fast, and when going nt top strides something like Bft 4in. in his work he tins been standing up some of onr prominent runners fonr and five yards in Sf>. cnrl beating them comfortably. Donaldson. going fast or slow, moves like a piece of machinery, and appears to get over the gronnd without any effort, so wonderfully clean is his work. Sprinting down the centre of the looks to be St top. when suddenly shoot oat oyer the last twenty yards, and then one realises tbe capabilities of the man who holds the prond position of champion of the world. Training starts about 10.SO a.m.. and continues for about an boor, and a visit to the Domain is well repaid by seeing the famous pair in action.
