THE EXHIBITION SITE.

The difficult question of the most suitable locality for the proposed Exhibition still remains unsettled, and the Executive Committee is to make another tour of inspection of all possible sites. As our readers are aware, ttie decision iof the City Council in favour of the Domain ha* not met with universal approval. The supporters of Victoria Park still persist in their advocacy, and there is a general feeling abroad that the distance of the Domain from the centre of (the city and the difficulty and expense involved in making it accessible are strong arguments against its selection. We have already dealt with the question ir some detail, and we need only repeat •with regard to VWtdfia Park . that the limited area, the impossibility of- utilising the reclaimed land in Freeman's Bay, the inconvenience entailed on the general public by shutting up this popular sports ground for a long period, and the expense of restoring it to its originsl condition, are, in our opinion, conclusive arguments against it. As to the Metropolitan ground, the area is so circumscribed that it would be manifestly impossible to hold ah exhibition worthy of the city there. The Domain, on the other hand, affords practically unlimited room, and many physical advantages which could be utilised so as greatly to enhance the popularity of the Exhibition. The Tramway Company's officials have expressed the opinion that the transit problem cpuld be solved without serious trouble or expense; and if it can be shown that no extraordinary outlay will be required to adapt some portion of the Domain area to the requirements of the Exhibition and that adequate provision for public transport can be made there At a moderate cost, we believe that the great majority of the Executive Committee will come to the conclusion which we have already reached, that while the Domain site ma'v not be absolutely ideal for the purpose It offers relatively so many advantages and is open to so few objections that it may safely b» selected as the best site available for the purpose
