AUCKLAND EDUCATION BOARD.
The usual meeting of the. Auckland Education Board, held to-day, was attended by (Messrs; G. J. Garland, J. D. McKenzie, C. ■T. Barriball, E. C. Banks, G. W. Murray, G. Edgecumbe, and A. It. Harris. THE TEACHING STAFF. On the recommendation of the Teachers' Selection Committee "the following appointments were authorised: —Mrs. i>. M. Hamilton, teacher Avvitu Central school; Mr. G. P. Barnby, temporary charge Te Hana school; Mr. E. X. Qrmiston, temporary charge Mercury Bay school; Mr. F. C. Day, temporary charge Maungatautanio No. 2 school; Miss A. S. Terry, temporary charge Kaharoa and Te Pu part-time schools; Miss A. ;E. Wisbart, assistant Waiokaraka school; Miss K. E. ;B. Kenny, temporary assistant Mercer school; Miss R. E. Steele, temporary assistant Remuera school; Miss M. iH. Slade, temporary assistant Paparoa school; Miss M. M. MoLeod, relieving assistant Hukerenui South school; Miss D. Wilks, relieving assistant Onewbero school; Miss A. Forbes, relieving assistant Onehunga D.H. school; Miss I. D. Earle, pupil teacher Te Awamutu school.
It. was decided to consult the Kopn School Committee in regard to the appointment. of Miss E. .T. Wbitmore as assistant; to defer the appointment of an assistant to the junior model school at Auckland, and to invite applications for tie position of headmaster at Wiangarei school. The resignation of Mr. E. C. Ptirdie as headmaster at Whangarei, was accented with regret'.

The chairman was appointed to make temporary arrangements for carrying on the work of inspection of schools pending the appointment of n successor to Mr R D Stewart, who has resigned. ' ' GRADED FLOORS. The Inspector-General indicated in a letter received that the Department object to the construction of graded floors in science rooms as being opposed to the best interests of individual work, and stated the floor of the laboratory at. the Hamilton District High School woujr] have to be levelled before modern equipment could be provided, and asked for an assurance from the Board that the graded floor would not be perpetrated at the Thames and Pukekohe District High Schools. Mr George George stated that he did not quite understand the Department's objection, especially as the graded floor was the best compromise of the difficulty of pioviding two science rooms. The graded floor was suitable for both individual work and for demonstration purposes. It was explained that in regard to the Hamilton school the matter was now In the hands of the Board of Governors, but in reference to the other two schools, that the Department specify objections to the graded floor. GENERAL. It was decided to make application to the Minister for a grant for the equipment of the junior model school established in connection with the Normal School at Auckland. A recommendation by the Finance Committee that lhe Minister be asked to sanction the erection of the Waihi Technical School on a section in Kenny-street, in terms of the offer marie by the Waihi Borongh Council, was approved.
