BACKBLOCKS SCHOOLS.
.MORE AID WANTED. , At the meeting of the Auckland Education Board this morning, Mr. E. C. Banks moved in accordance with notice given: "That in districts, where there arc between 10 and 30 children, and where the Department cannot see its way to make the usual grant of about £250 for the erection of a school, the Board ask the Department to make a grant sullicient for the erection of a building about 15 feet square; such building to lie constructed, so that when the population increases and a large building 'is required, it can lie used as the school porch." Sir. Banks directed attention to the difficulties under which the pioneer settlers laboured in poing into new districts to open up rough and virgiin country, and urged that their burdens in the matter of the education of their children should be lightened by greater facilities being granted in the manner indicated. The chairman thought that the Government had in the past been most persimonious in giving aid to the establishment of schools in back districts. The motion -was unanimously carried.
