(Received 0.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Entries for the Rifle Association's annual meeting total 1500, the prize money being £SOOO. PRISON REFORM. SYDNEY, September 26.
The Attorney-General for New South Wales (Mr. Holman) has selected a site at Tuncurry for prisoners' tree-planting camps. The Minister proposes to have 1000 acres cleared immediately, in order to allow the- work -of tree-planting to proceed. Prisoners in the camp will be allowed to earn money and a remission of sentences. They will also bo taught scientific farming, to enable them to take up land at the conclusion of their sentences. KILLED IN A MINE. PERTH, September 26. Some staging collapsed at Chaffer's mine to-day, and Thomas Denman was killed, and George McCleod seriously injured. DOMINION DAY IN SYDNEY. SYDNEY, September 26. The New Zealand Association celebrated Dominion Day with a brilliant ball, there b«i.ng a -large attendance of visiting New -Zealanders. New Zealand vessels in tho harbour were decked with bunting.
