CONCERT AT BIRKENHEAD.
■ A "very successful concert was held In the Foresters' Hall. Birkenhead, on Wednesday evening, in aid of the Presbyterian Church building fund. The programme "was «rrau«ed toy Mr. E. Parker. The Her. G. T. Roby presided. An orchestra of twelve performers, ander the leadership of Mr. England, opened with an overture, "The Gladiator's Farewell," and also contributed a selection from and the •••Empire Veterans." The latter, a piece composed by the leader, was encored. Miss Bartlett i sans "Melisande In the Wood," Air. Bertram Angus "Star of Eve." Mr. A. H. Ripley •ißvening Song" (encored). Madame Gbam- , Uers also contributed a solo for which she I was enthusiastically recalled. The Minster Quartet party sang "Allan Water," and ; were repeatedly recalled. Mr. A. J. Flett i gave a recitation, with some local topical j hits, and as an encore gs/ve "Wta'j Catchin' Kesh?" An instrumental trio by Messrs. | P. Dtmery, R. Booth, and S. Dlmery was ; most acceptably executed, as was also a j violin solo, "Legende." by Mr. P. Dlmery. The Northcote Scouts troop, un- [ der the command of Scout-Inspector Steb- | bing, ga-ve an exhibition of signalling and i physical drill, and a song and chorus "The | Sleeping Camp," Inspector Stebbing sing- j ing the solo. The troop also lent valuable assistance to the promoters of the! concert during the evening. The pro-! gramme concluded with some capital scenic: and hnmornus electric pictures by Hay- | ward's, who gave their services gratuitously. Messrs*. W. T. Sharp and T. Coward acted ' as accompanists, and Mr. <E. Clark as secretary.
