DEPLORABLE CONDITION OF STOCK. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Included in the matters reported on •by the Inspector of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to animals was a reference'to one of tbe effects of the dry season experienced in Canterbury. He reported that complaints were reaching him as to the deplorable state of stock, particularly of sheep, an various farming districts. A case just reported to him was evidently one of starvation. Some hundred's of sheep were seen to be in a dying state between Dunaandel and Hororata, and a large number were already dead. There was not a vestige of fee!T available, and witnesses described the scene as horrrbl; hi the extreme. With another officer of the district the Inspector intends visiting the district mentioned to got expert evidence as to the exact cause of the death of these sheep.
