THE ELECTIONS.
EDES EESCOTtBATE. A deputation repteaea&sg the d ifferent centres of population in the Eden electorate waited upon Mt W. J. Speight this morning, and urged limi to consent to nomination for that seat at the coining elections. Those present represented the Mount BoeMU, Mount Albert, Avondale, and Mount Eden portions of the district, and they assured Mr. Speight of the strong support he would receive if he agreed to become a candidate. Various features in connection 'with the matter were discussed, and members of the deputation expressed themselves as strongly of the opinion that Mr Speight's candidature would be successful. Mr. Speight, in reply, admitted the force of the contentions of the deputation, and undertook to give a definite answer on the-question within a week.
TAUBANGA. The Hon. T. Mackenzie, Minister for Agriculture, stated at Balclutha that present indications pointed to his seeking an electorate m the" North Island. The Minister has been strongly requisitioned to contest the Tauranga seat by residents of that district.
