QUEENSLAND STRIKE.
TERMS OF SETTLEMENT. NO VINDICTIVE SPIRIT. (By Cable.—Press Association.— Copyright) BRISBANE, August 15. General satisfaction jb expressed at the settlement of the strike. The conference met at noon, and shortly afterwards the Press was admitted, and handed the agreement. In addition to the terms cabled, it was agreed that it be a recommendation to the employers and employees of the various districts to meet and endeavour to arrange a mutually satisfactory agreement for next season, as far as possible uniform throughout the State. It was agreed that no vindictive spirit be shown toward the strikers. THE LITHGOW TROUBLE. MELBOURNE, August 15. Mr. Tudor (Federal Minister of Customs) declares that the withdrawal of the bounty from Messrs. Hoskins, proprietors of the Linthgow ironworks, cannot be granted. He explains that the bounty is paid under an Act, not a regulation, and, therefore, cannot be stopped at will. SYDNEY, August 15. The secretary of the Labour Council declares that now the sugar strike is settled the whole of the forces of organised labour will be directed against Messrs. Hoskins on behalf of the Lithgow strikers. The Northern Colliery Employees' Association has rejected the Stanford Merthyr Lodge's motion against compulsory training by 21 votes to 7. The Newcastle Miners' Federation has resolved to withdraw from the Political Labour League. MR. HUGHES' POSITION. EMPLOYERS' PROTEST. (Received 10.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. The council of the Victorian Employers' Federation adopted a protest against the Federal Attorney-General, as president of the Waterside Workers' Federation, directing members to refuse to handle non-union sugar, as such action tended to cause a general strike in contempt of the Arbitration Act, which he as Attorney-General should have endeavoured to uphold.
