POLICE COURT.

(Before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M.). THE DRTTNIIARQS. Alfred Murphy, an elderly man with a once white shirt showing in unexpected places through a highly-buttoned jacket, admitted having been found out three times in an unsober condition in the last feix months, and expressed a desire to have himself prohibited. He was fined 10/, and a prohibition order was ordered to be issued against him. Three first offenders paid the usual penalty of 5/ for public insobriety. John Casey's excuse for a breach of his prohibition order was that he had been working too handy to town. Now that he had discovered the reason for his frequent lapses he wished a chance to get away to the country. Fined £2, in default sevc days. William E. Bayes. who was discovered unconscious in Federal-street as the result of a fall on the pavement, was convicted of drunkenness and ordered to pay 5/ medical expenses. For being disorderly while drunk, in that he entered business premises and refused to leave, John Poison was fined 10/ and C/ costs. For continued breaches of his prohibition order, Denis Tracey was fined £2, in default seven days in gaol.

STRUCK OUT. Ivan Walker, a lad just over 16 years of age, was found, a fortnight back wandering homeless in the city. A charge of being an idle person without sufficient means of support was preferred against him in order that the police might have legal justification for taking charge of him, and he was sent to the Salvation Army Home, pending inquiries as to his relatives. The police got into communication with relatives in the South and a sum of money was forwarded by them to provide for the lad's return, but meantime the boy had absconded from the Home. Inspector Hendrey said that so far his department had not been able to get into touch with the young absconder in order to send him home, but he asked that the formal charge against him be taken off the books. This was assented to by his Worship. ALLEGED INDECENT ASSAULT. A youth named Alfred Dumper was charged that, on 17th July, at Devonport, he indecently assaulted a girl nine years of age. The prosecution alleged that the girl and her sewm-year-old brother were playing on Cheltenham Beach when accused appeared in a boat, and offered to take taein for a row. They went into the boat, and he pulled them towards North Head, where he induced the boy to land to drive some cows along the hillside. He then beached the boat, and as the little girl was stepping out of the hoat, it was alleged he indecently handled} iher. The girl screamed out and he desisted, but insisted on her kissing him before he would pull back to let her brother on board. She complained then to her brother that the man had been rude, an* later when she got home she told the woman at whose house her parents were staying. The child's evidence to this effect was supported by that of the brother and the woman. The hoy, however, stated that he didn't hear his sister scream, but said she had been crying when he came back after going to drive the cows. H. P. Oakdcn stated that accused denied to him having committed the offence, 'but admitted he had kissed the girl. Serdt. Baskerville put in a statement by accused in which the latter stated that he got out of the boat (at North Head) and was gathering shells when the girl (who had got out after him) started crying, and said she must go home. He told her to wait till he had filled the bag, and, putting his hands under her arms lifted her into the boat. He absolutely denied having done what was charged against him. Accused reserved his defence, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial, hail being allowed in one surety of £SO. MISCELLANEOUS.

Ftor obstructing a footpath by tying three horses on it, Fredk. Millar was fined 5/ and costs. Wm. Jones was fined 2/6 and costs on each of two informations for permitting stock to wander. For cycling on a footpath at Newmarket, Emanuel Rosmunui was fined 5/, and 7/ costs. For landing from the ferry steamer Condor at Devonport, when it was in motion, Sainty Hansen was fined 5/ and costs. For allowing his cart to stand on Mamikau-road longer than was necessary for loading or unlo-ading, Wm. Barrett was fined 5/ and costs. The cart was opposite the hotel at Newmarket for 25 minutes, and Barrett, on returning to the cart, informed the constahle that he had 'been for a shave. ONEBinrGA. A sitting of the Onemmga Police Court was held this morning before Messrs. A. S. Holmes and E. Gallagher, J-P.'s.
