(Before Mews. H. Ford and W. Farrell, J.P's.) THE DRUNKARDS. The week-end driftage cast up on the shores of the look-up on Sunday included five first offenders, two of whom had their bail of £1 forfeited, while the others wer,e fined 5/ each. Wm. McGregor, Arthur Burns, and Patrick O'Neill, who had done it twice, were fined 10/ apiece, and Chas. Chase, in view of his record, was fined £I. May Clare, who was under obligation to appear for sentence (on a charge of soliciting) when called on, yas fined 10/ for drunkenness, and informed that the leniency was in consideration of the fact that she had been nine days in gaol on remand, and that she had promised to go to a situation in the country. ALLEGED THEFT FROM THE PERSON. George Gardiner, alias George Morse, was charged that on Saturday, at Frankton Junction, he stole a pocket book and £7 in money from the person of Ernest Brammer, and was remanded to appear at Hamilton on Friday. A SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHT. Wm. Martin, after the Opera House entertainment on Saturday night engaped in a fight in Wellesley-street, and was arrested. He protested that ho was not the aggressor, and merely protected Wmself from aggression by another man. The arresting constable stated that the accused was looking for fight, and was more pugnacious than the oth°r man. Accused was fined £l. A PAIR OF STOLEN BOOTS. Edward Reardon, bootmaker, of Vic-toria-street, had occasion on 4th of July to leave his shop. In his absence Chas. Glover called and asked the boy for a pair of brown boots that were being repaired. The boy went to find Mr. Reardon. Shortly afterwards Mr. Roardon returned to find the accused and boots gone. In the box Mr. Reardor stated that hi had since got £1 compensation. In reply to Ohief-Detec-tive Marsack, the witness said that the money was paid by accused's father gome time before accused was arrested. Tt was merely payment for the boots, and not intended to square the matter. Accused called no evidence in defence, and waß fined £ 1 and costs. A MONTH IN PRISON. Jas. Block, a young foreigner, apparently of German nationality, was charcred with obtaining throe sums, 17/6, 12/fi, and 2/6. from certain persons, and failing to account for same to John Dawson. The facts were that the accused wan ! taking orders for Dawson, a rubber stamp maker, and that stamps were made for certain people, and the money paid hv the people to accused, and not accounted for by him. He admitted embezzling 17/6, and was sentenced to a month's hard la.bonr.
