OBITUARY.

JOHN HUNTER HARRISON. Regret will be felt by the many friends of Mr. John Hunter Harrison when they learn that he died at his residence, Manukau-road, Epsom,about 3 p.m. yesterday. About four years ago Mr Harrison went under a serious operation, and it was thought that his trouble was over, but six months ago a second one was performed, and since that date deceased has really never been in good health. A month or two ago his health began rapidly to give way with the result as stated above. Deceased was born at Straban, Ireland, of English parents in ]S44. who removed over to Liverpool while he was still an infant. Mr. Harrison seems to have had the Britisher's instinct for wandering, as he had been as a sailor to Canada and India before he arrived in Auckland in the ship Percy on the :10th of December, 1565. He started in business in Parnell, but soon afterwards accepted a position as bookkeeper for Mr. dames Anderson, then he went to the goldliclds at Hokitika and Westport. In the latter place Mr. Harrison was bookkeeper for the firm of James Powell and Co. It was while on the West Coast that the deceased was, with 1500 men, the lookout for trouble at the time the Fenian riots were expected. From the West Const Mr. Harrison returned to the Thames, where he started in business, and got married. 11l February, IS7O. Mr. Harrison began business at f'ororaandc! with liis brother, Mr. R. H. Harrison. This he «ivi" up, and accepted the position of Countv Clerk at Coromandel, which he held from 1877 (o lSflo. When he resigned that office Mr. Harrison went to Tar.inaki. but returned to Auckland during the big mining boom about 20 years ago. ami started business here as a legal manager. Retiring from that business a few years later Mr. Harrison went to live at Mt. Albert, and did good service on the Road Board, as his experience while County Clerk at Coromandel was of great value. Deceased is survived by his widow, two sons (Stanlcv and S. H. Harrison), his daughter (Mrs. Reek ford), of Melbourne, and the Misses K. and J. Harrison. Deceased is also survived l>v four of his brothers, Messrs. E. M. C. and P. .T. n.arrison (of Auckland), Mr. W. (1. Harrison (of San Francis-eo), and the Bev. A. Harrison. D.D| The interment will be private.
