A BRAVE BOY.

SAVES LADY'S LIFE. Owing to the heroism of a fifteen-year-old boy, Bert Allen, son of Capt. Allen. Devonport, and a member of No. 1 troop. Devonport Hoy Scouts, an elderly lady was rescued from drownin,; in the harbour on Saturday night last. The lady, accompanied by her son, had attended the theatre, nnd on arrival at the ferry tee at 10.50 p.m. found the Condor just moving off. She attempted to hoard the vessel, but fell into the wnter. The boy Allen divested himself of his coat and plunged in to the rescue. He reached the lady and held her up for several minutes while the steamer backed to the wharf, and willing hands helped the rescuer nnd rescued out of the water. At one time they were in danger of being crushed between the steamer and the wharf, and when got out of the water both were suffering from shock. nnd received attention from Dr. Guinness, who was on the steamer. Constable Gourley pays a tribute to the boy's brave deed. He says the lady and lier rescuer were in the water while he ran the full length of the jetty, and climbed down to the piles to the water's edge, where, with the assistance of another man. ho pulled them out on to the boat. Constable Gourley savs that if ever there was an act 'of bravery deserving of recognition this is one. A few months ago the boy saved another youth from drowning on one of the Devonport beaches.
