KINEMATOGRAPH PICTURES.

REQUEST FOX MUXICIPAL, CEXSOUSHIP. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) -eUftISTCHURCH; Friday. The discussion about the motion pictures shown in Rangiora on Coronation Day has not ceased without having had an effect, and already a request has been made to the Mayor of Christeimrcb. (Mr T. E. Taylor, 3i.P.) to establish a censorship of pictures shown in the muni- < cipality. 'There is at present no provision in the by-laws of the City for the-, I control of the picture shows, and it Willi jbe necessary, therefore, if the request 'is granted, for the City Council to frame regulations to give it power to censor the films. — Municipal censorship is not unknown; it exists in many cities in America, and more than one picture show and dramatic enterprise has felt -the power' of "the mutiieipafitfes that "have banned their wares and prohibited their introduction into the cities they controlled. The request for municipal censorship ■was made to-day, when a deputation waited on the llayor and Town Cl?rk, and i.rp;ed that the City Council should rstahlish- a censorship, of the, filme: _di_splaved in tbe city. The Mayor explained to the deputation that tlip matter wns dependent on the by-laws. He said that the request would be placed befoTe the By-laws Committep. which would consider the question of the advisability of framing bylaws givinjr authority to the Council to take over the control of the pictures displayed in the city.
