AUCKLAND PRESBYTERY.

A meeting of the Auckland Presbytery I was held last night, the Moderator (the 1 Bey. W. Thomson) presiding. Mr W. H Holloway appMed on behalf of the Kamo Church Committee for a loan of £50 from the New Century Fund to pay off the debt on the church. It was decided not to consider the request until it was made by the Church Management Committee. Parish Missions.—A petition was received from members of the Somervell Memorial Church .(Reniuera) asking that the church be raised to a regular charge. It was decided to first receive reports on the matter from the -neighbouring parishes. On the motion of the Bey. Mr Trotter it was agreed to divide the Waiuku parish into two portions. Mr Trotter was appointed moderator of the parish. Labour Sunday.—The Beligion and Morals Committee's recommendation that the last Sunday in October be set aside as "Labonr Sunday," for the ministers to speak on social questions, was adonted. Defence Scheme.—The committee chosen to go into the matter of appointing chaplains in connection with the compulsory defence scheme presented a report stilting that the Revs. D. D. Scott, W. Trotter, and Isaac Jolly were suitable for such appointments. The report was received. The Rev. W. Trotter expressed his disapproval of the proposal to form denominational corps in connection with the new military training scheme. In forming cadet corps, he said, the Government were face to face with a great moral difficulty, and efficient supervision was needed. In order to carry this out, Mr Trotter moved "That this Presbytery express its willingness to assist the Government by appointing territorial chaplains.
