LOCAL BODIES' MEETINGS.

The ordinary meeting of the Remnpra Road Board was held last evening, when there were present Messrs. C, A. Cawk-wc-1,1 (chairman), Fi. Bond, P. Spencer, J. S. Dickson, ,-in-d E. C. Pllkington. Storm Water Drain.—lt was decided to a-ccept the offer "f £30 by the Dilworth Trust Board for laybls dorm a storm water drain in MacMurray-ro.d. The chairman stated that he had viewed the locality in company with members of the Trust Board on a wet day. and was convinced that a drain was n. eded to carry off the water comir. from Mount Ilolison. Drainage. —A letter was received from the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board, stating that the Board's contribution on the estimated expenditure for year ending March 81. 1012, was £513 2/9. The chairman said that the Board could not pay its contribution out of the general rate any longer. He therefore moved that a i special rate of l-10d be struck for the purpose. The motion was carried. Light in ..—The chairman brought forward the question of better lighting for the district. He said that the Board was paying i the Gas ''otupany about £300 a year from : general rate, but a much-increased number of lamps was required in the district. Scarcely a meeting w_ held nt which an application for a lamp was not dealt with. He moved that a special rate of l-16d be struck to provide for the installation and maintenance of Ftreet lamps; aiso that applications he invited by advertisement from ratepayers desirous of having tamps in their streets. After some discussion, the latter portion of the motion was withdrawn, and the morion as altered was carried unanimously. Mr. Spencer took occasion to remark that under present conditions it was an acrobatic feat to get down some of the roads at night time.
