OBITUARY.

r.. MR. T. H. WHITE. • ■ #'"'" _ One well-known in the timber industry of Auckland passed away yesterday in Mr."T. H. Wni'te, who di.l at his residence, Graham-street, at the age of 6_ years. Mir. White was born in; Auckland, and from June, 1891, onwards was mill manager to the Kauri Timber Company. He entered the timber trade as a youth, his first employer being i.ar. Gilbert, whose works were situated. in Princes-street, - opposite Government House gates. Ho subsequently enteredthe employ of Mr. George Holdship as a joiner, and when the latter's 'business was amalgamated with that of the Auckland Timber Company, he took service .wlitli the new "company. When -tlho Auckland Timber Company in turn was superseded by the Kauri Timber Company in 1888, Mr.' White had charge of a department, and in the course of the next three years was made successively factory manager and mill manager. Some three years ago he was sent to Sydney to dispose of the Company's business there, and effected a sale on highly satisfactory terms. ' On his return to Auckland Mr. White for the first time experienced ill-health, which culminated last December in a general breakdown, which kept him from his duties until his. death. Mr. White was known and respected by all connected with the timber industry in Auckland—masters and men alike. He was frequently called to sit as a representative of the employers on the Conciliation Council, and his'wide experience and full appreciation of the workers point: of view never failed to be of service He was president of the Sawmillcrs Association for some seven years, and also of the Shipowners' Federation As vice-president of the Employers' Association he also did much useful work Tor some 3,, years Mr. White was visit ing .msttceto-the Me.
