DAVIS CUP CONTESTS.
THE PRELIMINARY TIE. SYDNEY, June 12. The secretary of the Tennis Association has sent a cablegram to South Africa expressing regret that South Africa must withdraw from the Davis Cup contest. The withdrawal leaves England and America to play off to determine which shall compete against Australia in the challenge rouod in December in New Zealand. It appears as if England and America will play off the tie in Auistraiia, as America has definitely refused to go to London.
