POLICE COURT.

(Before Messrs- A. Rosser and G.-Read, J.P.s) THE DRUNKARDS. Several old offenders were dealt with this morning. Patrick Alfred ScaTrott was fined 20/; Wm. Waddington, Peter Dove, and Mary Friend were each fined 10/ or 48 hours. Geo. Cook, disorderlywhile drunk in Albert-street, was fined a similar amount, and two first offenders were fined 5/ or 24 hours. ALLEGED THEFT. Michael Mulcahy was charged with having stolen a leather bag, eontarnling a pack of cards of the value of 3/, the property of Gerald Albert Byrne. On the application of the police the case was remanded until Thursday. FALSE PRETENCES. Peter Alexander, alias Colombo, was charged that on June 4th he did obtain from Romeo Bragato, the sum of £4, by means of a valueless cheque. The circumstances were that accused got possession of a blank cheque and filling it in for £4, went to a countryman of his, Romeo Bragato, licensee of the Masonic Hotel, of Devon-port, and representing himself as a fanner of Papatoeboe, asked to have a cheque cashed. Bragato did thlis, and next day noticed that the cheque was not signed. Accused's attention was drawn to this, and he signed it, stating at the same time that be had an account in the bank. This proved uxt- i true. When arrested accused made an admission of his guilt to Detective Sweeney. Accused pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. BY-LAWS. Fredeniek Ooppins was fined 5/, with 7/ costs, for riding a bicycle on the foot-" path of Remuera-road. Win. Bartlett, who did not appear, wa3 fined 10/ with 7/ costs, for riding a bicycle on the footpath of Epsom-avenue. Walter Montgomery pleaded not guilty to a clurge of having driven a motor-car round an angle in Customsstreet at other than a walking pace. On the occasion in question defendant's motor-car ran (into the bicycle of a telegraph messenger, with the result that the bicycle was broken. The Court was convinced that it was necessary to prevent drivers making dangerous angles in streets. Defendant was convicted and fined 10/, with costs 19/.
