SHILLING CABLES.
(Received 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, June 9. Mr. Fisher is inquiring into the feasibility of Mr. Josiah Thomas' suggestion of a shilling cable rate between Australia and Montreal, thence mailing the messages to Britain. Mr. Josiah Thomas (Federal Postmas-ter-General) proposed a shilling a word cable service with England over the Pacific lines, cabling to Canada and thence dispatching messages by mail across the Atlantic, taking four days.
