Acting under statutory power, wK* has been in existence for many vein, the Education Department has decided that from January I nest the standard ; ' of exemption from . attendance at primary schools will be raised from tij fifth to a pass in the sixth' standard, For many years the fourth standard was the highest which had to be passed ' to secure exemption, but in accordanca with a steady tendency towards' iricreasing the educational requiremenU ; the fifth was adopted, and now tie sixth has been made the compulsory, point in the educational course of Ketr. Zealand children.
