FLIGHTS IN NEW ZEALAND.
BELGIAN AERO COMPANY'S PROPOSAL. The French Consul at Auckland, M. Paul Marcus, has received a letter from the Societe Internationale d'Aviation, which has its Tieadquarters at Ostend, in reference to a proposed tour of Australasia by its certificated aviator, M. Bene Cozic, who, in April last, broke the Danish record for altitude and duration. M. Cozic possesses the highest testimonials from the Aeroa Club of Belgium, the Ostend Aero Club, the officials of the Coutrai Aviation Week, and; others. He has made successful flights in several European countries, and feels confident of equal success in Australasia. The Societe Internationale d'Aviation is anxious to find some sporting society, club, or other body of persons who would be willing to guarantee the expenses of the enterprise to a certain extent. The letter does not mention 'the sum required, hut presumably it will depend on the support received in Australia. Particulars of the "machinfe used are not furnished, but it is stated that if sufficient support is forfchcornihg tho tour will be commenced in September next.
A leading member of the Aero Club of New Zealand, when asked his opinion of the proposal, told a "Star" representative that the club would be glad to encourage any scheme whereby the people of the Dominion would be interested in aviation. He could not say, however, that it would be willing to advance any large sum as a guarantee. Hammond, the New Zealand aviator, was at present in the Dominion, and it might possibly be arranged that he should give exhibition flights at some future date. The whole question would be carefully considered at the next meeting of the club", and a definite course of action might then be decided on.
