The s.s. Wnkanui left for Wellington yesterday afternoon. The steamer Hynilford, which Is under charter lo (he Vacuum Oil Company, and which is due at Auckland about July 1, is bringing a cargo of 100,000 cases of assorted oils to New Zealand. Sir Thomas Shaughnessy, chairman of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company, said recently that contracts were to be" given out shortly for the construction of two new steamers for the Pacini- trade. They will lie 13.000 tons each, and steam about IS knots. Mr. Peters, second engineer of the Katapoi, left the vessel at Lyttelton to go into tho Christchurch Hospital, where he will have a piece of stel extracted from one of his cye.s. The barquentiue Caria, '-'02 tons, has been chartered to take coal from Newcastle to Gisbome, and returns to Sydney with timber. The sailing vessels which arrived yesterday have been berthed as follows: —County of Anglesea, at Hobson-Mtreet wharf: Aldebaran, at Chelsea; Marjoric Craig, at Railway wharf. The barquentine Titania was to have anchored ill the stream this afternoon. She puts to sea to-morrow morning, and will complete loading timber nt Hokianga for Sydney. The barque Mnrjorie Craig, after discharging produce nt Auckland, proceeds to Kaipara to load timber for Melbourne. The New Zealand Shipping Co.'s s.s. Ruapehn arrived at Plymouth from Wellington yesterday. It is reported that, the White Star Line is about to have a big twiusrrew steamer built at Belfast to replace the Delphic in the New Zealand trade. In all probability the Delphic will be transferred to the Australian cargo service. The new vessel will be considerably larger than the Delphic, and it is understood will be named Britannic.
