The fire started in the foreman's workshop office, and: spread to the main building, but was extinguished hy the brigade after slight damage had) been done. The insurances, are in Commercial Union, £700 on tl—s build—ig'and _I'loo on the contents. THE MOKAU ESTATE. PALMERSTON'- NORTH,. Wednesday. The directors of the Mokau- Coal and' Estate Company at a meeting to-night'-determined, in order to ensure the prompt settlement of the first block on their estate, to have 10,000 acres subdivided! and 1 tllrown open for sale at the end of July. They will require only 10 per cent, i of the purchase money down. _RA_IW__"S. AND ELECTRIC, LIGHTING. NAPIER, this day. The Borough Council resolved to asfe. the ratepayers to sanction a further loan of £15,000 for tramway construction, it having been- found that the first loan ot £35,000 is insufficient to provide additional power necessary for electric lighting. PROPOSED CHURCH UNION. WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The representatives of the New Zealand Methodists and Primitive Methodists have been sitting in Wellington all day, considering the question of the union of the two Churches. The proceedings were held in private, the respective presidents of the two Churches presiding alternately. An unofficial report is to tbe effect that good progress has been made. The deliberations will be continued to-morrow.
