THE HOSPITAL STAFF.
RULES AS TO CONTROL. At the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday evening proposals were submitted to amend the rules of the Auckland Hospital as follows:— Rule 21 to read: "The chairman of the Medical Committee shall be responsible to tKe Board for the carrying out of these rules in so far as they affect medical questions. He shall have power to suspend temporarily any resident medical officer or nurse for misconduct, neglect, or any breach of discipline affecting the treatment or care of patients, or any breach of discipline likely in his opinion to injuriously affect the management of the hospital, acting through the lady superintendent in her department."
In rule 58a to be inserted: "The senior resident medical officer shall be the head of the resident medical and surgical staff, and shall be directly responsible to the Medical Committee, through the chairman, for the medical and surgical administration of the hospital." Rule 66 to read: "The senior resident medical officer shall exercise a general, superintendence, in conjunction with the lady superintendent, over the nurses and patients, and shall inform the Hospital Committee, through the chairman of the Medical Committee, of whatever may require attention in his department, and afford such information on matters within Mb control as may be required." The proposed amendments were referred to the solicitor for perusal, and will come before next meeting of the Board for adoption.
