At the double Connecticut still hud charge, with Hunakaha next and Rebel third, Just In front of Winiata. Going op the bill the last time Winlata ran up to Connecticut, the pair jumping the first fence throe lengths In float of Rebel, Hunakaha striking hard and coming down. Winlata took charge as they came to the second fence, and was never afterwards troubled, winning pulling up by a dozen lengths from Connecticut, which was a similar distance in front of Rebel. After a couple of false starts they were let go, Cast Out rushing to the frost, but when they crossed the double Okuihau w*» leading, his nearest attendant being Cast Out, after which came Arty, Pleiades, Dudcen, Cloudy Morn, Bonny Jean, and Mosart In that order. Smilax immediately rushed to the front, and led along the hack, followed by Blectrukoff. Master Jack, Ooromandei, Flying Soult, and Tattoo, which were in close company, with Maxwell at tfte head of the others. Soiftsx <was still the leader when they crossed the top stretch, Tattoo being ■his nearest attendant, with EJectrakolt, Maxwell, and Domino in a bunch, and Flying Soult at the bead of the' rear division. Smilax still had ibis advantage when the name turn was reached, where he ran wide, and Electrakon*. getting through on the calls, was -with him at the distance, while Con>mand*cl, Simla Stoea, Tattoo, Maxwell, and Flying So.uk all challenged. Blectrakoir headed Smilax at the lawn rails, but the latter en mc again, and, after a desperate race, won by a bead. Coror imandel wae two lengths and β-haif away, third, and then came Santa Rosa, Tattoo, Maxwell, FJylng Soult. Domino, Sea Slf, Spectre, Sir Artegal, and Soius, with Master Jack last Time, L 43 2/5. The bracketed pair, Tattoo and Maxwell, were favourites. After the race, the stewards aeked the connections of Sm-ilax to explain his running as compared with that in. the Members' Handicap on the opening day and the Prince of Wales' ■ Handicap on the eecona day, the explanation tendered being accepted as satisfactory. Thie order was maintained as they ascended the hill and came to the double. Going along the back, Antarctic maintained his lead, with Loch Fyue, Sol, and Kapakapa together, the quartet climbing the hlfi' in this order, Bed McGregor being hopelessly out of it. The first fence on the top of the hill brought Sol to grief, and Antarctic raced down the hill with a Eocx) lead of Loch Fyne, which wae a couple of lengths ahead of Kapakapa. At the wall into the straight Antarctic struck hard, but kept his feet, and, easily keeping the opposition at bay, ran home a winner by six length* from Loch Fyne, which was two lengths in front of Kapakapa, Red McGregor being a long way back. Time, f1.21 3-0- Antarctic was favourite.
