In the House of Assembly a motion for the appointment of a Select Committee to ■ inquire into the operations and powers of , the Australian Jockey Club lapsed. Opponents of the motion claimed that it Was a "fishing" inquiry, with the object of annoying a club which had done bo I much to raise the standard of racing, and tow spent £40.000 a year in prize money.
