Madill, of Pukekohe, and their daughter, will be passengers by the Marama next Wednes« day oh a tour round the world. - ■ Ah old and highly esteemed Albertlander, Mr. William Hefford, died on Monday, aged 85. He arrived at Auckland in 186.2 in the ship , Hanover. •Hβ was born in- linbourne, Northamptonshire. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Weatlherley, of London, who are visiting the Dominion, "will proceed to Rotorua to-morrow, and after seeing the ThermaliDistrict and the .Wanganui Rivet, will go on to Wellington to join the ■Tainui on the 18th inst. for London. Mr. and Mrs. A. Birch end their son, Mr. W. R. Birch, English visitors who have been spending a. month or two in the Dominion, arrived thie morning from the South and are staying at the Grand. Hotel. They leave on Saturday by the Maitai, en route for Home. Mr.%Lawrenee Birks, -who has been engineer in charge at Rotorua, and lately has been appointed to the position of assistant engineer of the hydro-electric schemes to be carried out by the Government under an Act of last session, passed through Auckland to-day on his way to Whangarei, wheTe he will investigate tho possibilities of the Wairoa Falls. Passengers sailing by the steamer Maitai, which leaves Wellington to-day for San Francisco, via Auckland, include Father Quinn, Mr. John Dirthie (Wellington), and iMrs. V. K. Baume and three sons. The Rev. Edward Walker and Mrs. Walker and family' (Halcombc), are passengers for {RarotSonga, en route to San. Francisco, where they intend to settle for a time. Mr. W~ J. Parker, who is a candidate for tha Remuera Road Board at to-morrow's election, in an announcement this evening, makes a statement as to his position on the Board. Being always in an unvarying minority, he claims' that he was unable to effect any reform, and he criticises the finance that has resulted in a debit balance during the twelve months of £1,000.
