The , present member does nothing of the kind. Hβ rules absolutely, though %he issues vastly greater. We are being nubed into expense after expense, and are not even given the chance to protest. _ Street lighting was. commenced; the first hint that it was intended reached the hate*' payers when they saw the. lamp-pott* being Set up. Now an expensive night* soil contract has been let, far in advance '■ of the needs of the district, Justin- the notion of one man—the contract is let, ■.■':' the whip is cracked, and we fall in : line and meekly obey. The wishes of tie ratepayers ought to -be ascertained be« r fore new departures of such magnitude are made, and the wisdom of many or eeveral drawn upon. It is quite thne-.
